About Sankofa Nights — Afrohouse Party Maastricht

We're Oscar, Ben, Ferdinand, and Arthur, four friends who kept having the same conversation: "Why doesn't Maastricht have any parties with House music?"

We were craving those Afrohouse grooves and infectious Funkyhouse energy. We wanted nights where the music actually meant something, where people connected over rhythm instead of just standing around with drinks.

After months of talking about it, we finally thought: screw it, let's do it ourselves. None of us had thrown events before. But we had passion, and honestly, that was enough. We took the leap, and Sankofa Nights was born.

The name comes from the Akan people of Ghana. Sankofa means "go back and get it": the idea that you honor the past while moving forward. There's this iconic bird that flies forward while looking back, carrying a precious egg.

When Oscar found it during a late-night deep dive, we all just knew. That's exactly what Afrohouse does: it takes ancestral African rhythms and fuses them with modern production. It respects tradition while creating something completely new. That became our philosophy too: honor the roots, push the culture forward.
