Muziekgieterij is a concert venue and music production facility in the Sphinxkwartier, Maastricht. Opened September 2019. Two halls, six rehearsal rooms, one recording studio, one DJ lab.
Boschstraat 7, 6211 AS Maastricht. Sphinxkwartier district, north side of the city center. The building is a converted joinery from the former Sphinx ceramics factory. Industrial architecture: high ceilings, exposed concrete, steel beams. Acoustic treatment and climate control added during the 2019 renovation.
Standing capacity: 800. With balcony: up to 1,100. Professional sound and lighting designed for the room dimensions. Suitable for standing concerts, seated configurations, and club nights. Events at this scale include Sankofa Nights (Afrohouse, Funkyhouse), Zero For Three Festival, and touring acts across genres.
Capacity: 420. Separate sound and lighting rig. Used for intimate concerts, album launches, and smaller DJ events. The foyer between the two halls serves as a bar and secondary event space.
Recording studio equipped with a Raindirk Symphony LN-3 analogue mixing console. Handles recording, mixing, editing, and post-production. Six soundproofed rehearsal rooms with backline for bands and solo artists. DJ lab with professional decks and monitors for practice sessions.
No single genre. The calendar includes indie, jazz, electronic, hip-hop, Afrohouse, and club nights. External collectives book the halls for recurring events. The venue's in-house team programs live music. Full calendar: muziekgieterij.nl.
On foot: 10 minutes from Maastricht station. Walk north along Boschstraat. Sphinxkwartier is signposted.
Bus: Lines 1 and 5 stop nearby.
Car: Q-Park Sphinxkwartier, 2-minute walk. Street parking limited during events.
Bike: Racks at the entrance. Cycling from anywhere in Maastricht takes under 15 minutes.
Lockers: 1,000 digital lockers. Book via smartphone. Cost: 3.50 euros.

2004: Foundation writes initial business plan. 2007: Moves into former L1 building on Bankastraat with municipal support. 2012: Outgrows the Bankastraat location due to visitor volume and neighborhood noise concerns. 2019: Opens current venue in the Sphinxkwartier.

The neighborhood around Muziekgieterij has developed into a small cultural cluster. Bold Rooftop Bar sits on top of the former Sphinx factory building, a few minutes walk away. Lumiere Cinema is nearby. Restaurants and cafes have filled in the ground floors of the converted industrial buildings. Arriving early for an event and spending time in the area is part of the experience.
Muziekgieterij has become the anchor of this quarter. It brought consistent foot traffic and gave the Sphinxkwartier a reason to visit after dark.
